‘Reiki’ is a Japanese word meaning ‘Universal Lifeforce’ and is a form of ‘laying on of hands’ healing that has ancient origins in Tibetan Buddhism. It has no religious connotations. Mikao Usui is the man accredited with the Traditional Reiki method practised by many therapists and healers today and it is via this method I have trained in Reiki I and II.

Reiki is simple, gentle and conducted without fuss. The client either lies on a couch or sits on a chair while the Practitioner places hands in particular positions on their body over a period of 1 hour. Energy is channelled via the Practitioner’s hands to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels of the client. Reiki works with issues at all levels, believing that the physical cannot be healed until other levels have been addressed. This belief is common among virtually all Complementary Therapies. Treatments are conducted in relaxing surroundings to gentle music.
